Arthur J. Heinonen Obituary

Arthur J. "Artie" Heinonen, 65, of Gloucester, husband of Christine (Daley) Heinonen, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. Arthur was born in Gloucester, MA on December 6, 1957, and was the son of the late Walter John and Elizabeth Mary (Rose) Heinonen.

Arthur graduated from Gloucester High School with the class of 1975 and graduated from New Hampshire Institute of Technology with an Associate of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1977, and from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1983. He was employed as an Electrical Engineer for over 40 years, 35 of which were with Varian Semiconductor/Applied Materials. In his time as an engineer, he traveled to many places around the world and always brought home an artifact and a story.

His engineering skills were not limited to electronics; he could fix anything presented to him. He always had that part you needed for a broken item, and if he didn't, he'd go find one for you. He loved working on cars, specifically all things Ford. He enjoyed camping and spent over 20 years going on large group camping trips in his Airstream "Twinkie" with family and friends. Many Sundays were also spent with friends, playing cards and watching football. He spent his Tuesday nights at Jalapenos and Friday nights at the Rhumb Line, enjoying live musical acts. Music and movies were beloved to Artie; he played trumpet in his youth and had a lovely singing voice. In his youth, he would drive around with his daughter Rachelle and quiz her on the music artists that were playing on 100.7 WZLX. He loved trivia and enjoyed reading Trivial Pursuit questions during yearly camping trips. He and his wife, Chris, have watched thousands of movies together, and he loved reciting movie quotes. To steal his favorite line, "have fun storming the castle!".

He is survived by his wife Christine, whom he was married to for 32 years, and his children Rachelle (Heinonen) Favazza and her husband, Steven, of Gloucester; Erin (Parsons) Hutchings and her husband, Garry, of Gloucester; and Kendra (Parsons) Church and her husband, James, of Georgetown. He is also survived by his brother Walter "Dan" Heinonen, and his sisters, Eileen (Heinonen) Erwin and her husband, Leo; Donna (Heinonen) Amero; and Sheila (Heinonen) Collins, all of Gloucester. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan, Penny, and Dante, and grandpups, Chase, Bradi, and Oscar. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brother-in-law Eugene Amero.
