He was predeceased by: his father-in-law Martin J. Foley; his brother-in-law Robert Burrill; his nephew Luke Progen; and his parents, Ernest Hamel and Barbara Lucille Hamel (Tompkins).
He is survived by: his wife Helena F. Hamel (Foley); his daughters, Tonya Hamel (Jason Lupaczyk) of Athol, Beth A. Hamel-Wiita (Joey) of Ashburnham and Brigitte Hamel of Winchendon; his grandchildren, Benjamin Wiita, Jonas Wiita, Lily Wiita and Aidan Mikels; his siblings, John Hamel of Winchendon, Paula Hamel-Gabrieli of Winchendon and Cathy Burrill; his mother-in-law Catherine Foley of Gardner; and his siblings-in-law, William Foley (Deborah) of Gardner, David Foley (Lisa Cady) of Athol, Martin P. Foley (Maria) of Newton and Carolyn Kymalainen (David) of Gardner. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
