It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jane C. Austin of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, who passed away on August 2, 2024, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, John Wahl and Cecilia Marie Wahl (Thoman); her siblings, John Wahl, Rosalie Gagnon and Theresa Wahl; and her close friend Gerard Rouleau.

She is survived by: her children, Brenda Shepard (William) of Northport, FL, Deborah Mercadante (Anthony) of Fitchburg, MA and Mark Austin of Burrillville, RI; her grandchildren, Kristin Ronan, Lindsey Shepard, William Shepard, Nicholas Mercadante, Cecilia Zepeda (Mercadante) and Nathan Austin; and her great grandchildren, Lucas, Connor, Avery and Hailey Mae. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to St. Anthony di Padua Church, 84 Salem St., Fitchburg MA 01420.

She knew how to take care of herself and her family through good times and bad. She had intelligence, perseverance, and empathy for everyone, including her long career taking care of ill patients.
