He was predeceased by: his parents, John Smus and Tekla Smus (Goncarz); and his siblings, Joseph, Raymond, John Smus, Anne Stanley, Evelyn Kaczynski, Statia Staszko and Wanda Adamski.

He is survived by: his wife Lois Smus (Franklin); his children, Peter Smus (Gina) and Kristen Castonguay of Feeding Hills; his grandchildren, Michele (Michael), Matthew (Silvana), Kirk and Shayne; his great grandchild Arianna; and his sisters, Mary Smus of Springfield and Agnes Bogacz of Springfield.
