He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Dougherty and Gertrude Dougherty (Conner); and his siblings, Gertrude (DeMello), Thomas, Paul and Kevin Dougherty.
He is survived by: his children, Kathleen of Los Angeles, Kara Merry (Matt) of West Tisbury and Patrick of Marshfield; the mother of his children Joan McLaughlin Dunayer of Edgartown, Massachusetts.; his brothers, Joseph of Los Angeles and William of Boston; his grandchildren, Lucie Dougherty-Soares, Carly Dougherty, Josephine Merry, Jennifer and Anne Dougherty; and his friend Joseph Neri of East Greenwich, RI.
He was a past member of the Georgetown University Alumni Association, a member of the University Club, and a trustee and treasurer for the Rhode Island College Foundation.
