She was predeceased by: her parents, Restituto Alpuerto and Rosenda Alpuerto; her husband Dr. Carlos Y. Fernando; and her brothers, Johnny and Tasman Alpuerto.
She is survived by: her children, Dr. Carla Fernando-Gilday of Duxbury, MA, Christel Gwynne (Patrick) of Mansfield, MA and Michael Fernando (Linda) of Brewster, MA.; her siblings, Abel Alpuerto (Raquel) of Peabody, MA, Alicia Belisle (Albert) of Georgetown, MA, Alexis Raul Alpuerto (Nancy), Gino Alpuerto of Tampa, FL and Dinah Alpuerto (Khoi Doan) of Tampa, FL.; and her grandchildren, Sebastian, Grace, Olivia, Sean, Sydney and Xavier.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 9th 2025 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the Hathaway Home For Funerals (1813 Robeson St, Fall River, MA 02720). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, January 9th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Holy Name Church (709 Hanover St, Fall River, MA 02720). A burial was held on Thursday, January 9th 2025 at the Notre Dame Cemetery (1540 Stafford Rd, Fall River, MA 02721).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Nila's memory to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, honoring her legacy and the values she cherished.
