He was predeceased by: his wife Veronica Melo (Mendoza); his parents, Manuel Carvalho Melo and Ana Soares Melo; his son Agostinho M. Mello; and his siblings, Conceicao Borges, Maria L. Aguiar, Manuel F. Melo and Mariano F. Melo.

He is survived by: his granddaughter Natashia Mello; and his great grandchild Gia-Vera Santos. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
