Warren J. Grant Jr. Obituary
Warren James Grant Jr., 62, of Essex, passed away at his farm on November 3, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer.
Warren, Son of Rollande (Dube) Grant and the late Warren Grant Sr. was born in Salem, Massachusetts on November 28, 1959. He was a proud graduate of Essex Agricultural High School, class of 1978 majoring in Agricultural Mechanics.
Warren worked many years for Bothways Farm which brought him to the town of Essex to raise his family. He was a dedicated call fireman for the Essex Fire Department for many years before becoming a full-time firefighter and mechanic for the town of Manchester achieving the rank of Lieutenant. As a firefighter Warren spent countless hours sitting "crisscross-applesauce" in kindergarten classrooms teaching the SAFE program in both Manchester and Essex. Warren also worked at Ernie's Service Station as a mechanic and then at Beauport Ambulance Service as a mechanic and EMT.
A skilled mechanic, Warren was called to fix the unfixable trucks, tractors, and equipment of the North Shore. Warren was always helping people, weather it was fixing a plow truck in the middle of a snow storm, replacing smoke detector batteries for an elderly neighbor, or knowing what to do when a cow falls through a pool cover, Warren never saw someone in need and thought "that's not my job".
Warren is survived by his wife Michelle Grant of 40 years; Daughter Jennifer Cartier and Husband Josh Cartier, Son Warren Grant III and Wife Ashley Grant, Son Christopher Grant and Fiancé Alice Tonry; Grandchildren Sophia Cartier, Giuseppe Cartier, and Silas Grant; his mother Rollande Grant, Sister Pat Mullen and husband Paul Mullen, Sister Theresa Grant, Sister Eileen Lovenstein and husband Kevin Lovenstein, brother Mark Grant and Tonia Grant as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his bonus family on "the other side of the door" his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Lois Girard; nephew Jason Girard; nieces Amy Girard, and Lindsay Wood who he always considered his own.
He is predeceased by his father Warren J. Grant Sr., and brother Michael Grant.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday November 9th at James C. Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester Massachusetts from 4pm-7pm. The funeral will be held on Thursday November 10th at St. Ann Church, 74 Pleasant St. Gloucester Massachusetts at 10am. A private burial will be at a later date.
