Russell R. Jordan Obituary
Russell R. Jordan, 84, of Essex, MA died on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at The Atrium Assisted Living in Danvers, MA after a long illness. He was the husband of Rita E. (Wilson) Jordan to whom he had been married for 62 years.
Russell was born in Lynn, MA., on August 9, 1939, the son of the late George Russell Jordan and Mildred (Murray) Jordan. The Jordan family settled in Lunenburg, MA where he attended public schools, graduating from Lunenburg High School in 1957. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Boston, specializing in radar control. After his Navy service, he joined the apprentice program of the General Electric Company in Lynn, at the same time taking engineering courses at Northeastern University. He later studied at Newbury College in Brookline, MA and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He worked at General Electric aircraft engine division plant in Lynn from 1962 until 2017 where he held various positions in the planning department, retiring as senior planner, specializing in the heat treatment of aircraft engine parts. Russell also held a commercial clamming license in Essex and worked with his sons on weekends digging and selling clams to local shellfish dealers.
Russell was active in the community in Essex, serving as the Scoutmaster of Essex Boy Scout Troop 39 for several years. He also coached little league baseball in Essex while his sons participated in the league. He often volunteered to work on community projects in the town of Essex. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Rita, he is survived by his three sons, Mark A. Jordan and his wife Jo Ann (Doucette) Jordan, Michael J. Jordan and David M. Jordan, all of Essex, MA, his five grandchildren, Christopher Jordan and his wife Kimberly (DeFelippo) Jordan of Schenectady, NY, Timothy Jordan and his wife Amanda (Crane) Jordan of Andover, MA, Heather (Jordan) DiFelippo and her husband Joseph DeFelippo also of Schenectady, NY, and Isabel Jordan Ruiz and Diego Jordan Ruiz of Valencia, Spain. Russell is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Olivia, Natalie, Madeline, Joseph and Matthew as well as Russell's three siblings, Lester Jordan and his wife Darlene of Fitchburg MA, Ann (Jordan) Harrington of Westminster, MA and Philip D. Jordan and his wife Beatrice (Vincent) Jordan, also of Fitchburg.
Visiting hours will be held at Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA. on Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 9:00-10:30 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church, 52 Main Street, Essex, MA., at 11AM. Burial to follow in Spring Street Cemetery, Essex.
