With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Dorothea F. Hammond (East Longmeadow, Massachusetts), whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Dorothea left this world on November 8, 2024 at the age of 101, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. She was predeceased by: her parents, Michael Laffetty and Florence Laffetty (Brouillette); her husband John Hammond; her son Jack Hammond; her son-in-law Alex Jones; her granddaughter Marie Yvon; and her brother Ken Lafferty.
She is survived by: her children, Christine Yvon (Bob), Dottie-Ellen Jones, Theresa Bertrand (Rich) and Mary Thomas; her daughter-in-law Janet Hammond; and her grandchildren, Bryan Yvon, Joe Yvon, Kelly Hammond, Kerry Hammond, Heather Jones, Jamie Thomas, David Thomas, Michael Thomas, Amy Pelzek, Lindsay Andres and Kayla Malouf. She is also survived by twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, November 17th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation (220 N Main St, East Longmeadow, MA 01028). A funeral service was held on Monday, November 18th 2024 at 9:00 AM at the same location. A funeral Mass was held on Monday, November 18th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the St. Michael's Church (128 Maple St, East Longmeadow, MA 01028). During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dot's spirit of service shone brightly as she hand-sewed over 5, 000 masks to help protect friends, family, and community members.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 North Main Street, Suite 104, Natick, MA 01760, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
