He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Francis Slattery and Estelle Slattery (Hartnett); his wife Kathleen (Coppinger); his children, Maura Hogan (Richard), Jay (Stacy), Kathleen Lynch (Brian) and Sheila LaFleur (James); his grandchildren, Jack, Paige Slattery, Seamus, Sean Hogan, Conor, Emily Lynch, Thomas and John LaFleur; his brother Thomas Slattery of Brockton; and his sisters-in-law, Catherine Coppinger (O'Neill) of West Roxbury and Kathleen Slattery (Kelshaw). He was also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's honor to the Boston Police Relief Association, Cops for Kids with Cancer, or Old Colony Hospice.
