He was predeceased by: his parents, Nicholas George and Eleni Cakounes (Zouzoulas); and his siblings, George Cakounes, Eugenia Smith (Cakounes) and Christine Nicholaou.
He is survived by: his wife Sophia (Delazanos); his children, Katherine Russell (Richard J. Russell II), Debbe Daley Byrd (James Byrd), Nicholas Cakounes and Gina Oliver (Jeffery Oliver); his grandchildren, Candace Keithley (Willey), James Russell, Krista Gennell, Peter Cakounes, Natalie Cakounes Peters (Brandan), Olivia Cakounes and Ryan Oliver; his great grandchildren, Quin Thomas and Bradley Keithley; and his brother Theodore Cakounes. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Transfiguration Church Kitchen Fund in Peter's memory.
