He was predeceased by: his parents, John Powers and Bridget Powers; and his siblings, John, Joan Fasanello and Ellen Parker.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Powers (McGrath); his children, Margaret Lyons (Thomas), Cheryl McInerney (Chris), James Powers Jr. (Dorothy), Geraldine Hurley (Joseph), John Powers (Sandy), Carolyn Bennett (Arthur), Lisa Howland (John), Christine DeSouza (Cleber) and Michael Powers (Christine); and his sister Nancy Creed. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Donations may be made to Saint Albert the Great Church in East Weymouth, or the Holy Cross Retreat House in Easton.
