He was predeceased by: his wife Julia (Connolly); and his sibling Francis Avey. He is survived by: his siblings, Mildred Halloran of Medford, Corrine Jackson, Doris Ferris, Lorraine Hopper, Claire Pero, Bernard Avey and Beatrice Hayes. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to Boston VA Medical Center, 150 S. Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02130.
