He was predeceased by: his parents, John R. Sr. Symington and Alma Symington (Batty). He is survived by: his wife Susan N. Kline-Symington; his children, Ashley and Marc (Liz); his brother Larry; his uncles, John and Bart; and also, Cali and Nancy.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dennis Memorial Library, 1020 Old Bass River Road, Dennis, MA 02638 or the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial Fund at 444 E. Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001.
