He was loved and cherished by many people including: his children, Larry Backman (Judith Hoffman) of Falmouth, Ellen Kent (Dana Kent) of Brandon, Florida. and Joan; his grandchildren, Jenna Friedman (Daniel Friedman) of Columbus Ohio, Allison Gasca-Backman (Santiago Gasca) of Annandale, Virginia, Caren Hoffman of New York City, Sam Hoffman of Princeton, Jerry Kent (Elisheva) of Jerusalem and Joanna Glebocki (Ian) of Jerusalem; his great grandchildren, Miriam, Sara, Tamar Kent, Rachel Esther, Zehavah Leah Glebocki and Felix Friedman; his brother Jack Backman; and his parents, Saul and Edith Backman.
