He was predeceased by: his parents, John G. Duarte and Matilda Duarte (Pina); and his sister Alice Harris. He is survived by: his spouse Domingas Duarte (DaSilva); his children, Maria Verissimo (Jose) of Dartmouth, Carlos Duarte of Dartmouth, Christina Panek (Jacob) of Fairhaven and John Duarte of New Bedford; his siblings, Edith Costa of East Freetown, Eleanor Vandiver of New Bedford and Robert Duarte of New Bedford; his grandchildren, Julian, Lucas, Allyson, Carina and Jacinda; and his siblings, Barbara Pires, William Delgado, Joaquim Duarte, Dorothy Woodland, Pauline Watkins, Mary Oliver, Joseph Duarte, Dominga Soares, Matilda Perry, Bernice Duarte and Marie Lopes. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
