Dawne M. Smith Obituary
Dawne was born in Pittsfield, MA on Memorial Day, May 30, 1948 to Doris C. Mack and Raymond John Pierson, both deceased. She grew up in Pittsfield where she met her husband of 31 years-Norman W. Smith who passed into glory in 2001. In 1971 she gave birth to her only child, a son-Norman W. Smith Jr. Dawne devoted her life to her family and was a stay at home Mother.
Later in 1985 the family moved to Stephentown, NY. It was here where her love of dogs led her to breed and raise golden retrievers of which she donated 2 puppies from separate litters to "N.E.A.D.S." These puppies grew up and became certified service dogs. Several years after her husband's death in 2001 she came into a close relationship with God by accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
After this she attended the "First Baptist Church of Lebanon Springs" in Lebanon Springs, NY. She also studied through a two-year online program through "Liberty University" and graduated with her son in 2009 with a certificate in Biblical Studies. She remained in Stephentown, struggling with declining health issues and was forced to give up her golden retrievers after going into congestive heart failure in 2014.
In 2017 she decided to sell her house and move back to Pittsfield, MA. It was here she was able to enjoy life a little more at her new home in Berkshire Towns Apartments. Here she had the peace of mind knowing that she was closer to her family and doctors. Here she spent her time with her Pomeranian, making new friends, catching up with her cousins and playing bingo.
She is predeceased by 3 brothers; Lt. William Pierson of Pittsfield who died in 1942, Raymond J. Pierson of Pittsfield who died in 1996, and Howard E.J. Pierson of Houston, TX who died in 2005. She is survived by her two sisters, Gloria Rufo and Doris Bean; her son Norman Smith Jr and his wife Lisa Adams, a granddaughter Tabitha C. Smith, several nieces, nephews and cousins; a close friend Christine Salavantis and a Pomeranian named Majestic.
FUNERAL NOTICE- Funeral services for Dawne M. Smith will be held Thursday, September 20 at 11AM at BARTLETT WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4-7PM at the funeral home. Donations in her memory may be made to the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 208, Stephentown, NY 12168.
