He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Andrew Vanderpoel and Ida Vanderpoel (Phinney); his wife Theresa (LaPearl); his daughters, Elaine Vanderpoel-Barrios (Eliud Barrios-Maranon) of Redwood City, CA and Lesley Vanderpoel; his grandchildren, Andrew, Mia, Kiley, Amy, Amanda and Emily; his sons, Robert and James; and his siblings, Peg Slate (Ron) of Granby, Eleanor Bascom of South Hadley, Richard Vanderpoel (Althea) of Bloomfield, CT, Wilbur and William.
