He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Amadeo Carrillo and Helen Carrillo (McClellan); his significant other Caroline Cowart; his children, Joseph Robert Carrillo, Jr. and Alison Jordan Oliver; and his sister Joanne Chelotti. He was also cherished by 10 grandchildren.
