He was predeceased by: his parents, Emmitt J. Whelan and Laura M.; his child Sue-Ellen Whelan; and his brother Emmett Whelan. He is survived by: his wife Ellen V. Whelan (McPartland); his son John E. Whelan (Jeanne Marie); his grandchildren, Laura Henry (Joseph), John P. Whelan (Caitlin), Gregory P. Whelan and Matthew Whelan; his great grandchildren, Skylar and Peyton; his brother-in-law Reverend Paul G. McPartland; and his siblings, Mary Sawtelle and Daniel Whelan. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
