She was loved and cherished by many people including: her father Richard Fitzsimmons; her husband John Harrington; her children, Richard Harrington of Lowell, Francis Harrington of Tyngsboro, John Harrington of Tyngsboro, James Harrington of Billerica, Dennis Harrington of Lowell, Mark Harrington of Virginia and Susan Harrington; and her grandchildren, Philip Harrington, Sean Harrington of James Harrington, II. and Maria Harrington.

She accepted her fate and lived a life based on family, charity, and her faith.

“The Harrington family, I am truly sorry for your loss. I knew Mel only for a short time but the time that I got to spend with her I cherish. What a very sweet, kind and dear woman. Every morning that I would see her she would smile and thank me for bringing her a warm meal. She was very proud of her family and all her children and would show me her family picture on the wall. I hope that she is at peace now and she will be missed dearly. Sincerely, Cathy (minuteman senior services)”
