David F. Baker Obituary
DAVID FONTAINE BAKER, 57 of Boylston, MA, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023. He was the beloved, husband of Amy (Gates) Baker, with whom he shared 33 years of marriage. Born December 31, 1965 in New Orleans, LA the son of Harold and Nicole M. Baker. David was raised and educated in Acton, MA and was a graduate of Acton/Boxborough HighSchool in 1984. He continued his education at Virginia Military Institute (VMI) where he, received his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Class of 1988. Upon graduation he was commissioned into the U.S. Army as an artillery officer.
During his time on active duty he was stationed at Fort Sill, OK and West Germany. On completion of his active duty commitment he returned to Massachusetts and was employed was a civil engineer, with New England Power, Roads Corporation and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation from which he retired. He joined the New Hampshire Army National Guard in 1993 with deployments to Iraq and Kuwait. He made an additional deployment to Afghanistan as a civil engineer with the Army Corps of Engineers.
During his time with the Army National, Guard he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, retiring on 2011. During his military service he was awarded two Bronze Stars for meritorious service and the Legion of Merit award. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Medal, Iraq Campaign, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. In addition to his wife and parents he is survived by his daughters Megan F. Baker of Sutton, MA and Sarah G. Baker of Boylston, MA. as well as his sister Stephanie L. Baker of Turner's Falls, MA.
Relatives and Friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours at the Chiampa Funeral Home, 5 Church Road, on the Common, Shrewsbury Center, on Friday, January 20, 2023, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. His funeral mass will be celebrated at St Mary of the Hills Church, 630 Cross Street, Boylston on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow with military honors at Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston.
