Mary Ann Downey Obituary

Mary Ann Downey passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022, in Beverly Hospital. She was 72. Mary Ann was born on February 12, 1950 in Baltimore, MD to Vincent Downey and Alberta Andrulevich Downey. She attended college at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA where she received a BS in Elementary Education. She went on to receive her Master of Education at Cambridge College in Boston, MA.

Gloucester became her forever home. Many of us fondly remember her as Miss Downey. She taught kindergarten for 33 years at East Gloucester Elementary School and retired on October 31, 2008.

She is survived by Elaine M. Callahan (predeceased) Kathleen T. Dotterweich (Regis), Joanne D. Conjour, Donna M. Downey; her nieces & nephews Todd V. DeMario (Tracy), Donna M. Allen (Robert), Regis J. Dotterweich Jr. (Laure), Alex B. Conjour (Mona) Alicia M. Conjour, and many great nieces and nephews. Her Gloucester family Michael and Joni Rocha, their daughter Emily (Rocha) Haight and her children Cynthia, Jane, Ross, Margaret & Charles Haight; as well as many close friends, colleagues and her beloved cat Niki.

A memorial service will be held in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St. Gloucester on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 12 noon. Please wear a mask. Family and friends are cordially invited. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 25 Mt. Pleasant Ave. in East Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Miss Downey to: East Gloucester Elementary School PTO, 8 Davis Street Ext. Gloucester, Ma 01930.
