Karin Schiffer Evans Obituary
Karin Schiffer Evans was born in Boston, MA on June 15, 1956 and passed away on July 22, 2024. She is survived by her three children, Joanne Evans, Carolyn “Corrie” Evans and John “Jay” Evans, as well as four siblings, Lauren Hutton, Mark Schiffer, Kristin Wells, and Matthew Schiffer. Preceded in death by her father Joseph Schiffer, and mother Carol Schiffer.
Karin had a passion for science and pursued a degree in microbiology graduating with her Masters from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She began her career as a research immunologist at T Cell sciences in Cambridge MA. She eventually retired her microscope and decided to start a family, having her first daughter Joanne followed by twins, Carolyn and John.
Throughout her entire life, Karin had a love for music, animals, the great outdoors, and cooking. Karin knew how to play three instruments, the piano, the flute and the guitar. At family Christmas celebrations you could find her sitting behind the piano playing music for the family to joyfully sing along to. She enjoyed riding and taking care of horses, and shared that love with her daughter, Carolyn. She enjoyed preparing dinners and desserts; whether it be Indian or grapenut pudding, shortbread cookies, Boston cream pie, German potato salad or a weisswurst and sauerkraut. She was frugal and embodied the traits of a do-it-yourselfer. She could often be found tinkering on her own vehicles to repair them herself, or tending to flowers in her garden. She had a love for the mountains, camping, water skiing in Vermont, and down-hill skiing in the winter. In the summers, you could find her on a floatie in the ocean, swimming in the pool with her nieces and nephews, or eating a large plate of fried clam strips. Karin could talk for hours, and always ended phone calls with at least three goodbyes.
Karin was a benevolent, strong and smart soul. She had a big heart. She is so loved and will be missed dearly.
Memorial services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm St, Concord, MA, on Saturday, August 24 at 10:00am. All who loved her are welcome.
