He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerard J. Bernard and Helen Bernard (Kennedy); and his grandson Joshua Michael Alley. He is survived by: his wife Karen Bernard (Tucker); his children, Cynthia L. Girard (Kevin) and Joseph A. Bernard (Alexandra); his grandchildren, Aiden, Julia Girard, Lucas and Colton Bernard; and his siblings, Mary Ralph (Allen) of Tuxedo, NY, Christine Templeton (William) of Atlanta, GA, Geraldine Berg (David) of Washington, D. C, Gerry, John Bernard of Chicopee and Paul Bernard (Shirley) of Boston. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations in Gerry's name be made to the Amherst Railway Society, 1130 S Main St., Palmer, MA 01069, symbolizing his lifelong passion for trains and the joy they brought him.
