He was predeceased by: his parents, William A. Burns and Leone D. Burns (Walker); and his wife Terry Burns (Moore). He is survived by: his children, William Burns, Christopher Burns, David Burns, Daisy Lopez and Michelle Burns; and his sisters, Jeanne Norwood, Ginger Huff, Charlotte Dorais and Sylvia Manning. He is also survived by three grandchildren.
