He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Royal Leighton and Marion Leighton (Campbell); his wife Mary Jane (Bailey); his children, Richard (Anita Leighton) of Athol, Patricia Blanchard (Nolan) of Tampa, FL and James Leighton (Tina) of Athol; his grandchildren, Aaron Leighton, Jeremy Blanchard, Bethany Mazarelli, Joshua Blanchard, Becky Carter and Jacob Leighton; and his great grandchildren, Bailey, Amelia Leighton, Gabriel, Greyson, Alec Mazarelli, Kylie, Mason, Cole and Owen Blanchard.
Even during the pandemic Richard continued to share Bible truths with people through letters and telephone calls.
