He was predeceased by: his father Donald Hassell. He is survived by: his mother Emily Hassell; his close friend Diane DeCoste; his children, Jacqueline, Alexandra (Chris) and Joseph (Neena); and his siblings, Alan (Sue), Daniel (Kathy), Mary (John) and Virginia (Diane). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews and extended family.
