He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Joseph Burns and Sheila Anne Burns (Harrington); and his brother James Burns. He is survived by: his wife Dr. Cathleen M. Burns of Acushnet; his children, Michael J. Burns, Jr. (Holly) of Plymouth and Nicole Vaz of New Bedford; his grandchildren, Mikenzie Perry, Avery Vaz, Alexis Green, Shea Burns and Dylan Burns; his great grandchildren, Amyir Hunt and Avyn Green; his brothers, Daniel F. Burns, Edward J. Burns Jr., Timothy P. Burns and Kevin; his sister-in-law Cheryl Furtado; his godchild Haley Furtado; and his niece Kaitlyn Egge.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 22nd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Aubertine-Lopes Funeral Home & Cremation (129 Allen St, New Bedford, MA 02740). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 23rd 2025 at 9:00 AM at the St. Martin's Episcpal Church (136 Rivet St, New Bedford, MA 02744).
