He was predeceased by: his parents, Rosa Mae Roberts Monk and Clarence W. Monk; his brother Ronald James Monk; and his daughter Debbie Monk Hoopaugh. He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Luczak Monk; his children, Cathy Monk Buchanan (Buck) and Michael Monk (Sallie); his son-in-law John Hoopaugh; his grandchildren, Ryan Andries, Jeremy S. Lewis, Hailey Simek (Rory), Ashley Kitchen (Kevin), Nicholas Monk, Levi Monk (Courtney), Elizabeth Monk Piper (Jason) and Brittany Minton (Barry); his siblings, Jo Nell Fowler, Don Monk (Mary) and Glenda Rose Marsh; and his niece Carole Luczak Powers.
