He was predeceased by: his wife JoAnn Mercer; his parents, John Mercer and Evelyn Mercer; his grandson Cody Mercer; his sister Darlene Williams; and his brother-in-law Benny Lee Williams.
He is survived by: his children, Sherry Smith (Frank) of Mangham, LA, Billy Joe Mercer, Jr. (Cassie) of Mangham, LA and Glen Wayne Mercer (Gayle) of Holly Ridge, LA; and his siblings, Anne Everard (Robert) and Claude Mercer (Carolyn). He is also survived by numerous great grandchildren.
