He was predeceased by: his former wife Wardell McCarty Skains; his parents, Edward Howard Skains and Ruth Hogan Skains; and his siblings, Howard Skains and Mary Nell Skains Spikes.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Addington Skains; and his children, Lamar Skains (Leah), Terry Skains (Susan), Mark Skains (Liz) and Janna Gillespie (Travis). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
