He was predeceased by: his parents, Julius "Dude" Shelton and Hazel Shelton (Howard); his son Kurt LaDale Shelton; and his siblings, Maurine Shelton and John Shelton.
He is survived by: his children, Trampas Shelton, Chris Bennett and Brittany Shelton; and his sister Shelvia Harrell-Hary (Vickie LeBaron). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren.
