He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Ethel Carpenter and Mary Louise Umphry; his stepfather L. T. Haley; his child Thomas D. Carpenter; and his siblings, Larry Carpenter and Shirley LeBlanc.
He is survived by: his wife Elaine Smith Carpenter; his daughters, Michelle Pitre (late Ricky Pitre), Rhonda Leveque and Wendy Tassin (late Michael J. Tassin, Sr.); his siblings, Mary Watson (Eddie Watson) and Donnie Russell (Cindy Russell); and his grandchildren, Christuina Hingle, Derrick Hingle, Randy Tassin, Jr., Justin Rayes, Elissa Stanley, Elaina Maise, Michael Tassin, Jr., David Gray, Christopher Pitre and Brooke Pitre. He is also survived by 25 great grandchildren.
