He was predeceased by: his wife Theresa Schanks; his parents, Jack Schanks and Mary Schanks; and his brothers, Terry and Steve Schanks.
He is survived by: his sons, Thomas Layne Head of West Monroe, Jason Schanks of West Monroe and Christopher Schanks of Alexandria; and his brother John Schanks of West Monroe. He is also survived by extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Layne's memory to Griffin Funeral Home to help defray funeral expenses.
