He is survived by: his wife Debra Deer (Smits); his children, Kerry Jon Deer, Jim Petitjean (Denise), Andy Deer (Stacey), Terri Jo Ascher (Erik), Sarah Staeven (Andy), Becky Phillips (Brian) and Amanda Deer (Sam Trones); his grandchildren, Timothy Detiege, Tyler Petitjean (Amber), Sabrina Maar, Amber Maar, Jordan Petitjean (Brett Fitzgerald), Brady Phillips, Isabella Staeven, Elizabeth Phillips and Jackson Trones; his brother Howard; his parent-in-law Merlin Smits; his friend Optimist; and also Junella Smits. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, brother and sister in-laws, other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, any monetary donations will be given to the Optimist International Foundation in Tom's name.
