He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Francis Castle; his parents, Victor Lee Whitehead and Evon Johnson Whitehead; his brothers, Roy Whitehead and Jimmy Whitehead; and his siblings-in-law, Earl Wayne Biggs, John Castle and Marie Whitehead.

He is survived by: his children, Donald "Don" Whitehead (JoAnn) and LaRonica Whitehead; his granddaughters, Anna "Katie" Whitehead and Victoria "Tori" Whitehead; his siblings, Nancy L. Biggs, Larry Whitehead (Ethel) and Bobby Whitehead (Sherry); his sisters-in-law, Celie Whitehead and Louise Rushing (Bill); and his adoptive daughter Christina Vessel. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
