He is survived by: his wife Nancy Brown Petterson; his children, Katherine Petterson Pruitt (Clay), Katie Elizabeth Petterson, Rami Louise Petterson and Andrew August Petterson; his granddaughters, Elle Alexandra Pruitt, Sawyer Emery Pruitt and Ana Marie Jabbia; his sister Jan Carraway (Dickey); his mother-in-law Mary Elizabeth Brown; his sister-in-law Kay Petrus (Wayne); and his aunts, Thelma Martin and Dusty Reed.
