He was predeceased by: his wife Betty Dunn Geter; his son Chris Jones; his parents, James C. Geter Sr. and Lena Desadier Geter; his siblings, James C Geter Jr. (Jimmy), Jean Kent, Donna Geter and Carol Doiron; and his nieces, Vanessa Kent Buck and Corinne Kent Weeks.
He is survived by: his children, Sierra Cherish Geter, Jacy Geter, Lisa Laurence Smith, Joe H Geter Jr. and Ryan Laurence; his sister Judy McConnell; and his nieces and nephews, Jacqueline McConnell, Glenda Wilson, Debra Doiron, Robert McConnell, Cleve McConnell and Raymond Kent.
