He was predeceased by: the mother of his children Odeatrice "Dee" Poole; his wife Betty Vines Polk Powell; his parents, Powell Powell and Mellonee Wilson Powell; and his sister Doris Powell Gray.
He is survived by: his children, James M. "Jimmy" Powell Jr. (Alex) of Bastrop and Jill Lynn Powell Mills (Bob) of Sacramento, CA; his grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Mills (Mark Lukawski) of Sacramento, CA, Parker James Powell (Molesworth), Vivian Elizabeth Powell of West Monroe and Lily Catherine Powell of West Monroe; his stepchildren, Aaron Polk (Stephanie) of Monroe and Amy Stahl (Doug) of Lyons, CO; his stepgrandchildren, Macy Stahl, Gavin Polk and Garrett Polk; and his pet Susie. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, February 20th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Kilpatrick Funeral Homes - West Monroe (1321 N 7th St, West Monroe, LA 71291). A burial was held on Friday, February 21st 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Clark Springs Baptist Church Cemetery (139 Clark Springs Rd, Eros, LA 71238).
