He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Dood Nichols and Rosa Nichols; his wife Sammie; his son Dennis Nichols; his granddaughter Glynece Harvey; his daughters, Sheila Harvey (Dennis), Carla Ritchie (Glenn) and Laura Womack (Jimmy); and his grandchildren, Eric Ritchie (Nina), David Nichols (Tressie), Melody Binion (John), Kyle Nichols (Hannah), Ryan Ritchie (Karlie), Samantha Womack and Nicholas Womack. He was also cherished by 11 great-grandchildren.
