With heavy hearts, we announce the death of George Newton Smith of West Monroe, Louisiana, born in Poplarville, Mississippi, who passed away on August 31, 2020 at the age of 83. He was predeceased by: his parents, William Richard and Annie Marie Dorsett Smith; his parents-in-law, Vallie and Maude Roy; and his siblings, Annie Marie Watson, William Dorsett Smith and David Richard Smith.
He is survived by: his friend Newton James; his son Paul Christopher (Nicki); his wife Virginia Rae Smith of Bunkie; his children, Ramona Castille (Mike) and William "Bo" Smith (Kimi); his sisters-in-law, Melitta Smith and Mary Lynn Smith; his grandchildren, Christopher Castille, Katelynn Castille, Scott Smith (Lacy), Jeremy Smith, Allie Smith and Anna Claire Smith; and his great grandchildren, Ryan Heath Roberts, Aubrie Laine Smith and Kinsley Grace Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
At age 82, Bo was diagnosed with COVID-19 and spent 30 days in the hospital. He was a fighter his entire life and was not going to let COVID beat him.
