He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Curtis Mayes and Lucy McCarty Mayes; his wives, Mattie Mayes and Annie Mayes; his daughters, Gerline Williams, Becky Goines and Joann Cotherman (Ricky); his grandchildren, Debra, Kenny, Harlan, Curtis and George (Boogie); his great grandchild Christian; his children, Shirley Rasberry (Douglas) of Goldonna, Shana Rasberry (Charles) of Urania, Fawn Fortman, Ramona Curry, Jettey Thomas, Jamie Mayes (Tracie) of Kelly, James Thomas and John Thomas; his sister Jane Griffin (Ronald) of Beech Creek; and his daughter Renee Shelton. He was also cherished by twenty-four grandchildren; fifty-five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
