We are sad to announce that on September 6, 2023, at the age of 87, Bobby Arnold Mathews of Tioga, Louisiana, born in Alexandria, Louisiana passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Julius A. Mathews and Dona Melder Mathews; his siblings, J. H. Mathews, James A. Mathews, Yvonne Mathews Vermaellen and Eleanor "Tee" Mathews Miller; and his siblings-in-law, James Turnage, Isaac Cripps and Deanna Milligan Turnage.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Milligan Mathews of Tioga; and his children, Timothy Mathews of Tioga, Terry Mathews (Dawn) of Boyce, David Mathews (Sandra) of Lufkin, TX and Janice Mathews Lewis. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

“I am grieved to learn that we have lost the last member of the Julius and Dona Mathews children. I know that he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and congregation. Not only was Bobby my uncle, he was also my childhood friend, as we were just 7 years apart in age. We spent many happy days playing at the old Tioga home. He was a great companion and friend. Time separated us, but I always remember him with great fondness and join you in your grief. God bless you. Jo Ann Vermaelen”
