He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugh Edgar Bigner, Sr. and Della Hutchinson Starkey Bigner; his wife Joyce Benton Bigner; and his siblings, Ellis Starkey, Amos Starkey, Alice Bigner Savoy, Carlene Starkey Lavigne, Nell Starkey Kinchen and Patsy Bigner McKinney.

He is survived by: his daughter Charlotte; his son-in-law Johnnie Stewart; his grandsons, Dustin Stewart (Tabatha) and Daniel Stewart (Nicole); his great grandchildren, Deborah, Ada, Chloe Grace and Ezra Stewart; and his brother Rollie Bigner (Sharon). He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
