He was predeceased by: his parents, Lizzie Charles and Samuel Charles; and his siblings, Joseph Charles, Sr., Mable Charles Johnson and Elouise Charles Meade.
He is survived by: his wife Josie Mitchell Charles; his children, Captain Gerald D. Brown, Karen Jackson, Nichelle Hampton and Montrell Chisley; and his niece Amanda Denise Charles. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
