It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Russell Mathews Sr. of Tallulah, Louisiana, born in Saint Joseph, Louisiana, who passed away on March 21, 2023, at the age of 80, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, John Henry and Mary Edna Ulmer Mathews; and his siblings, Quenton "Red" Mathews, John Henry "Buddy" Mathews, George "Tinker" Mathews, Billy Mathews, Alfred Sanders, John Pollard Mathews, Mattie Howard, Winnie Robertson, Myrtle Mae Floyd, Majorie Ford and Annie Harris.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Lorene Mathews; his children, Thomas Marshall "Mark" Mathews (Svetlana), James Russell "Rusty" Mathews, Jr. and Beverly Rechelle Gunter (John); and his grandchildren, Candice, Blake, Ashley, Lance, Kallie, Trey, Heather, Brandon, Timothy and Polina. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren.
