He was predeceased by: his parents, Bonnie Haynes Cardwell and Stanley M. Cardwell, Sr.; and his brother Ernest Gene Cardwell. He is survived by: his son James A. "Jay" Cardwell, Jr. (Darcy); his grandchildren, Nikki and Matthew Cardwell; his former wife Sally Cardwell Isaac; and his siblings, Stanley M. "Buster" Cardwell, Frank M. "Bill" Cardwell, Dwight "Pete" Cardwell and Bonnie Eileen Cardwell Homan. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
