He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Cathey and Robbie Cathey; and his siblings, Kenneth Cathey, Joy Shelton, Clovis Cathey, Mary Jean Sherrill and Wanda Bryce.

He is survived by: his children, John Brain Cathey of Lake Charles and Suzanna Lurah Cathey-Ford of Sulphur; his daughter-in-law Charlotte Cathey Ford; his grandchildren, Trent Cathey-Ford, Sarah Cathey-Ford, Taylor Cathey-Ford, Trevor Cathey-Ford and Scottie Cathey-Ford; and his siblings, Allen Cathey and Nancy Carter.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family.
